Russian search-engine Yandex passed information to FSB

Russia's largest search engine, Yandex, has confirmed that it passed confidential data to the country's state security service, FSB.

Yandex's online payment service gave the FSB personal information about users who donated money to an anti-corruption website launched by the Russian blogger Alexey Navalny.

The disclosure follows a warning by Yandex about the legal and political risks associated with investing in Russia, ahead of its planned listing in New York.

3. Not really a surprise. The FSB is everywhere.

Then again, so's Jandeks, the Russian Google. I've used it many a time, but I don't think I'd be comfortable using it to send money.

Sad, that the FSB is monitoring anti-corruption activists, though. Of course, considering that corruption's actually increased (or at least perceived corruption's increased) since the bad old days when El'tsin was in power, it's not surprising. Directionality of fish rotting and all that.
