(CNN) – Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels received 16 stitches to his forehead after being struck by a door after a workout Friday, his office said.

After finishing a workout at an Indianapolis gym, the potential 2012 presidential candidate was standing near a door that suddenly swung open and struck him. Daniels was transported to a nearby hospital, treated, and released.

The governor is currently recovering at home, his office said.

His spokeswoman Jane Jankowski confirmed to CNN that the governor told her he "uttered a creative expletive" when the accident occurred. He did not provide any further details on the exact nature.

Call the forensic team from "Bones". Does the angle and location of this wound match up with being struck by a door? Why not a broken nose? How does one stand near enough to a door to get that large of a cut? He was just standing there facing the door? I could understand if he had his back to it (being too stupid to realize one does not stand blocking a door). Then the stitches would have been to the back of his head. But really! If you're approaching a closed door, you have your hand out to push it open.

Of course, if you have political ambitions, you'd rather blame an accident on something out of your control, than admit to a workout accident - like tripping and falling, or getting thrown by a treadmill. Remember Bob Dole falling off a platform? Too many witnesses to spin that one. SNL should have Chevy Chase host so he can reprise some of his Gerald Ford accident moments.
