GENEVA, Oct 21 (Reuters) - The United Nations human rights office called on Friday for a full investigation into the death of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

"It is unclear how he died. There is a need for an investigation," U.N. human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told a news briefing in Geneva.

Referring to separate cell phone images showing a wounded Gaddafi first alive and then later dead amidst a jumble of anti-Gaddafi fighters after his capture in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, he added: "Taken together, they were very disturbing." A Libyan official says the burial of slain leader Moammar Gadhafi has been delayed until his death can be examined by the International Criminal Court.

Mohamed Sayeh, a senior member of the governing National Transitional Council, says a "third party will come from outside of Libya to go through the paperwork."

Sayeh also says Gadhafi's body is still in Misrata, where it was taken after his killing in Sirte. He says Gadhafi will be buried with respect according to Islam tradition and will not have a public funeral.

Friday's delay comes as bloody images of Gadhafi's last moments have raised questions over how exactly he died after he was captured wounded, but alive.

One day after Libya is freed and things are already looking up.

I hope that those responsible for killing him extra-judicially are held accountable (within the confines of a war-time conflict, I do not think they deserve execution or life imprisonment).

GENEVA — The U.N. human rights office called Friday for an investigation into the death of ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, who was captured alive by rebel forces in his hometown of Sirte before shaky amateur footage showed fighters standing over his bloodied body.

“We believe there is a need for an investigation,” said Rupert Colville, a spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights. “More details are needed to ascertain whether he was killed in some form of fighting or was executed after his capture.”

“The two cell phone videos that have emerged, one of him alive, and one of him dead, taken together are very disturbing,” he told reporters in Geneva.

A Libyan official said Friday that the burial of Gadhafi has been delayed until his death can be examined by the International Criminal Court — though it was not immediately clear if he was referring to a look at the dictator’s body or a probe into what led to his death.

about all the attention. That's what the voice tone and body language seem to show.
He certainly doesn't look like a jubilant soldier who's just dispatched the most wanted man in his country.

There may be lots of European oil barons giving a sigh of relief.

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations and human rights groups called on Friday for a full investigation into the death of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and voiced concerns that he may have been executed, a war crime under international law.

Images filmed on mobile phones before and after Gaddafi's death showed him wounded and bloodied but clearly alive after his capture in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, and then dead amidst a jostling crowd of anti-Gaddafi fighters.

"If you take these two videos together, they are rather disturbing because you see someone who has been captured alive and then you see the same person dead," U.N. human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told Reuters Television.

Asked whether Gaddafi may have been executed, he said: "It has to be one possibility when you look at these two videos. So that's something that an investigation needs to look into."

23. If they are going after the guy

that killed Gadafi, they need to go after every general and soldier that murdered thousands of civilian protestors in the days leading up to the rebellion. Those people are just as guilty, if not more so.
