Costco checks hot dog after woman claims she bit into bullet at Irvine store

IRVINE, Calif. -- Costco workers checked the merchandise at the store's food court and found nothing out of the ordinary after a woman claimed she bit into a bullet while eating a hot dog, the company's chief executive officer said Wednesday.

Police interviewed workers and opened all of the approximately 25 remaining hot dog packages after Olivia Chanes, 31, reported the incident, CEO Jim Sinegal said.

"We checked everything thoroughly," Sinegal said by phone from Costco's corporate office near Seattle. "Obviously, it's regrettable. ... The question is when could something like this happen."

7. I asked my mate

here's the explanation. Huge metal equipment is used in preparing food breaks and parts get into the food workers might not notice it at first so they metal detect the food. I suppose a bolt or something could come off and you might not know about it until you have a total equipment failure.

Makes perfect sense to me now (slaps head) duhh!

6. Metal shavings, splinters from the grinders. This was a big deal

during the Tyson strike in Jefferson where they made pepperoni. The "scabs" weren't bothering to scan for metal or do the proper maintenance on the grinders.

now why they metal detect (what a dummy) my mate was nice and told me I wasn't a dummy for not knowing. I've worked in factories but never food ones. Once explained to me it makes perfect sense!

I could never be so mean as to not do all I could to make sure people where getting a safe product. So weren't those "scabs" worried that one of their loved ones or a friend might eat that crap? I mean really that's just evil!

their families might be harmed. It may have been they were never trained to scan. :shrug:

Tyson pepperoni was used on so many brands of pizza and in restaurants, I was just glad I don't like pepperoni!
