Texas company meets with local officials to discuss offshore LNG proposal
Saturday June 05, 2004
BOSTON (AP) Executives from a Texas energy company have met with local officials to propose the construction of a $200 million offshore liquefied natural gas unloading facility.
Excelerate Energy LLC, based in The Woodlands, Texas, wants to open the facility in federal waters 10 miles southeast of Gloucester by the end of 2006, The Boston Globe reported Saturday.
The company's executives met Friday with
Gov. Mitt Romney and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who both expressed interest in the plan.
The facility could meet 10 percent to 15 percent of New England's current annual demand for gas and possibly reduce some LNG traffic in the Boston Harbor.
