US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage disagrees with the federal Opposition leader's view that the Iraq war has made Australia a greater target for a terrorist attack.
Last week the US President attacked Labor's plan to withdraw Australian troops from Iraq by Christmas, describing it as disastrous and saying it would crush the spirits of freedom-loving Iraqis and embolden the enemy.
Mark Latham responded by saying it is widely acknowledged that the Iraq war has made Australia a bigger terrorist target.
Mr Armitage has told ABC's Lateline program, in an interview to air tonight, that the Bali bombings took place before the invasion of Iraq.
