'Punish torturers' call

Bahrainis took to the streets yesterday to demand that torturers and human rights violators be brought to justice.

Around 400 people took part in the rally held next to the United Nations House in Hoora to mark the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

A statement distributed at the rally demanded that the Bahrain Government "bear the legal and humanitarian responsibility ... of compensating the martyrs and victims of torture".

The rally was organised by 11 civil societies, including political and human rights organisations.
