CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana, Sun. June 27: Greater international assistance to Haiti is needed to tackle poverty in that country. So says Chairman of the Caribbean Community and Antigua Prime Minister, Baldwin Spencer.
The chairman made the remarks at a briefing of reporters at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown on Friday, June 25, soon after he departed following his packed two-day visit.
Spencer said this is a view that is reflective of the Community.
But the Caricom chair, while assuring that diplomatic relations between Haiti and many members of CARICOM remain intact, said that the return to constitutional and democratic processes that underpin Haiti’s development are prerequisites for participation in the councils of the regional grouping by its newest member state.
