BLAST DAMAGES TURKISH DEFENCE HQ
An explosion has damaged a defence ministry building in central Ankara.
Turkish media said the blast, which happened at around 7.45pm British time in a courtyard, shattered windows in the ministry complex and surrounding buildings.
Police sealed off the area.
The explosion came on the first day of a two-day Nato summit in the Turkish city of Istanbul, which is under heavy guard over fears of terrorist attacks.
Hundreds of protesters hurled fire-bombs and stones at police as they tried to reach the conference centre.
Police used tear gas and water cannons to stop the crowd and dozens of people were injured.
