WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush has pulled back into a tie with Democrat John Kerry in a CBS News-New York Times poll, apparently boosted by increasing optimism about the economy.

The race remains very close even though Bush’s job approval rating was at 42 percent - the lowest level in this poll amid rising concerns about Iraq and terrorism.

Kerry was backed by 45 percent and Bush by 44 percent in the poll, according to the poll results released on Monday. 1. What the media never mentions is...

This race is not as close as it seems. Bush doing as bad as an incumbent can be at this point. His approval rating is tanking, and he's neck and neck with Kerry when the campaign hasn't even officially started yet. He's by no means finished, but I'm getting sick and tired of the media spinning it like he's doing well every time he gets even a minor bounce in the polls.

It does seem to indicate Kerry's weakness at the moment.

He has yet to really define himself with the American people. He has two chances to do that this summer... at the convention and with his VP pick.

A safe pick could cost him the election...

The campaign hasn't even started. Given the hurdles the media has put up, imo he's done a pretty good job of defining himself to this point. But you're right. The VP choice is key. He can't afford to muck that up.

The Greens understood this at their convention, and their party will be the stronger for it.

Voting for Kerry will allow for change for the better in the future.

No one has mentioned that the poll may not really be accurate. The Shrub regime believes in playing fast and loose with everything. The corporate media does as well. They're two great tastes that taste good together.

In other words, convince the voters that Bush is doing fine and the joiners will decide to vote for the winner. Manipulation.

meanwhile - his little bounce is due to economic hopefulness, and will drop again once the fed raises the rates. Fed is expected to raise interest rates due to inflation. This will slow down housing market which has pretty much kept the economy above water.

I think it reflects ABB at the moment...

Hopefully, Kerry will make the right moves in the next 2 months to build a lead...

Step 1: Nominate an EXCITING VP candidate.

15. I'm really happy for the other 49 states...

but here in Michigan, we aren't feeling any of that economic excitement. Sure, gasoline has come down a dime, but we still can't afford groceries. And the only places hiring are Target and Burger King, as usual. Once-bustling stores and strip malls remain boarded-up and empty, as usual.

Congratulations to the rest of you, though. I'm sure Bush has done a fantastic job in your states.

poll showing nader with more of the vote than in 2000. As for economic "optimism", outside of the corporate media I am NOT seeing any of it.

From the article:

"The poll found a slight increase in the number of people who said the economy is getting better - from 25 percent to 30 percent - and a significant decline in the number who said it’s getting worse - from 21 percent to 30 percent."

Is that a misprint? From 21 to 30 percent is not a decline.

18. They forget to factor in how many millions Bu$h has already spent

in campaign ads, which is much more money than any sitting president has every spent at this point in a campaign.

Plus all the aggressive attacks they have already tried to stick on Kerry and none of it seems to be working.

Bu$h is a miserable failure and the media seems to be the last to know.

The DOW could be at 20,000 and inlfation zero, and unemployment at 3%, and Bush couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

We all know how this works. Does anyone believe that someone that was a Bush supporter and is fed up and decided they are going to vote Kerry is wavering back and forth? People who are committed to Bush might be switching over to Kerry but I don't believe Kerry voters are switching to Bush. Once people decide Bush is a disaster they aren't changing their minds.

Anyone who says the economy is recovering needs a reality check: the "boost" is a last gap of spending with low interest rates; greeny is about to raise em and within a year the car and house markets will be much slower.
