Ahnuld and things are "mysteriously" cooperative up in
Sacramental. But out here in voter land, not much has
changed. This next election will be very interesting to
watch. It's clear that there is an effort underway to
diffuse the inter-party animosity, with the goal of getting
the grass roots to go back to sleep, and of returning
California to its historical sleepy conservative bent.
After decades of Reagan, Duckman, Wilson, and Davis
California is moving firmly to the left at the grass roots,
and it is upsetting national political calculations.

In witness of this claim, examine the gay marriage and
medical/recreational pot issues, and consider the number
of cities that have legislated against the "Patriot Act".
There is rebellion out in the great unwashed masses and
it's driving the "leaders" bonkers.

Arnold has tremendous star power and unlimited access to money. He has complete control of the state government through a combination of charm and intimidation.

Some lawmakers are flattered by his attentions, and all are afraid of his threat to personally campaign against any legislator or group who opposes him.

Every lawmaker knows what would happen if Arnold came to campaign against him personally. Arnold's star power and unlimited access to Republican money would overwhelm any state legislator.

When Arnold wanted money from Indian casinos, he flooded the airways with commercials against the Indians. Arnold got his deal.

Anything Arnold wants, he just threatens to put it on the ballot as an initiative. Everyone knows that Arnold will win any initiative he wants because he can get free publicity and he can raise more money than the opposition.
