President Bush on Wednesday nominated Keith Starrett, a judge on the 14th Circuit Court District of Mississippi since 1992, to be U.S. district judge for the Southern District of the state.
If confirmed by the Senate, Starrett would replace Charles W. Pickering. Stymied in getting some of his choices past Democratic opponents, Bush bypassed the Senate in January and gave Pickering a temporary appointment on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Starrett is a native of McComb, Miss. He attended Millsaps College, received a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.
