IBM to up India headcount to 10,000?

Global computing firm IBM plans to increase its staff numbers in India from 4,500 to 10,000 by 2005, according to a report from financial firm Merrill
Lynch.

The computing giant has sent teams to research various Indian cities and companies over the past few months, looking at how to expand its operations. IBM
declined to confirm details, according to the report, which was carried in India's The Economic Times.

If the report is correct, Big Blue joins other U.S.-based multinationals such as HP and Oracle companies in expanding Indian operations, which are primarily
devoted to software development.

I wonder how many Americans have heard about the recent "free trade" agreements we just made with Peru, and Singapore? Both agreements have immigration provisions that are designed to bring in more high tech workers. Senators Feinstein and Sessions made a bipartisan effort to get the immigration provisions removed, but failed. Also, once we make these "free trade" agreements they cannot be taken back unless the other "free trade" partner agrees.
