5. Bush and Cheney are inducing "terrorism" in Iraq

Most of the insurgents are Iraqis fighting back against Bush's invasion and occupation. There seem to also be some terrorists that have been drawn to Iraq.

The Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld claim that they are fighting terrorism is totally false. It has also been noted by many others that their actions are helping al-Qaeda to recruit new fighters.

It was reported several years ago on BBC that bin Laden wanted oil to sell for $50/bbl. That was one of the reasons he got support from some Saudis.

Now Bush/Cheney have pushed oil up to about $45/bbl.

Do you suppose that bin Laden will send Bush and Cheney a thank-you note when oil hits the $50 mark?

Notice how Cheney hears the word "sensitive" and he can concentrate on nothing else, merely spewing Bush administration boilerplate about how evil our enemies are.

Why is it that the Bush administration seems to love to talk about beheading, rape, torture, etc.? They seem to positively get off on this, but I digress.

Anyway, if Cheney ever bothered to read the papers and/or the best-seller lists, he'd know there's a little tome called "Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror." The book, by an unnamed member of the CIA, puts the lie to the Bush notion that the terrorists "hate us for our freedoms." No, they hate us for our policies, and the administration would do well to understand the whole environment in which an Osama bin Laden can attract a following.

What scares me most about this administration is that they seem almost wilfully ignorant, as though they can't be bothered to study any situation in a complex fashion. They talk merely in platitudes and comparisons, and never fail to praise themselves as having done an excellent job. And as James Wolcott puts it, they're never sorry and they're never wrong.

Cheney's cute little sound bites may make him feel like a big man and make his listeners laugh, but the comments are ignorant, shallow and ultimately short-sighted. That someone that shallow and ignorant could "rise" this far is truly terrifying and dangerous.

And by the way, I just sent an e-mail to CNN regarding their coverage of this. I urge all of you to contact your media outlets about this knee-jerk response of Cheney's.
