3. She lives where?
If she's less than 12 feet above sea level, she's toast, I'm sorry to say. You cannot ride something like this out. This storm is a killer. I know, I've been through them.

11. Best wishes, we are standing by...
How can your heart not break for people with loved ones in the path of this storm?

In a few hours this storm will pass...and those of us blessed to be safe will need to step up and help relieve those in the emergency.

Whether they need stong backs or just our dollars, it is always right to help those left in such need.

9. i was born & raised in south florida in the 50/60s and the contruction....
codes have changed and the gov't should be sued!!!! IMHO..,i have been in many many hurricanes and when the building codes were CBS and the houses had flat roofs they all made it through many direct hit catagory 4/5 hurricanes. but, all these new stick built homes with high pitched roofs are dangerous and cost us taxpayers billions...

12. The problem isn't the codes but the cheap builders who skirt them
I'm an architect and I know the codes have gotten stricter and more conservative over the years, especially after Andrew in '92.
The problem then was buildings which were sub-standard- example: Plywood sheathing which had less than the minimum number nails holding it to the studs than required.
Sloppy construction can kill.

13. concrete, brick and steel should still be the code in FL ...also
the people should be told to open the windows on the back side of the house (until after the eye passes) and then close them and open the other side after the ye passes to keep the roof on...the air pressure inside with this method keeps the lid on the house
