A federal panel called the act, which would have also required schools to contact parents of students who refused, a violation.
The pledge law was introduced in early 2001 by State Rep. Allan Egolf, a Cumberland County Republican, who said he initiated it after he was contacted by some veterans' groups upset because the pledge was not being regularly recited in schools.
Sloviter also cited Egolf's comments during the House debate in which he made it clear he considered refusal to recite the pledge to be an act that warranted some type of disciplinary action.
If anyone should be slapped it should be egolf. What a complete and utter asshole.
