| Mandy Moore Fumes at Being Declared Republican |
|
From the entertainment section: http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/#celeb10Singer and actress Mandy Moore is furious at being "outed" as a secret Republican in the new issue of America's Details magazine. The publication's upcoming September edition lists Adam Sandler, Freddie Prinze Jr., Jessica Simpson, Shannen Doherty and Moore as silent supporters of current US President George W. Bush who don't join the campaign trail and make their political views known, unlike loud and proud Democrats Ben Affleck and Barbra Streisand. However, the A Walk To Remember beauty has angrily denied she supports Bush and his party. Her publicist tells American website Pagesix.Com, "Mandy is not, nor has she ever been, a Republican." ~n

outing someone's political beliefs when they've gone out of their way to keep it from the public eye is about as low as can be.
if a person decides to keep that to themselves, then leave it be.

why are the Republicans such a mediocre lot? Alice Cooper? Ted Nugent? Drew Carey. Vincent Gallo. Britney Spears. Tom Selleck. Bo Derek. Is having talent a deal breaker for conservatives? Just wondering.

|
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 04:00 PM by msmcghee
Empathy is anathema to conservatism. Conservatism is based on the premise that doing for yourself spurs the economy and results in the greatest good for all - and if it doesn't, well, tough shit. That's the price we pay for having a vibrant conservative economy.
Unless you only do yourself - as most repuke actors do - then real acting is elusive IMO.
It seems to me that all the really good actors - are liberal. Although there could be some exceptions. Actors are artists. Good art of any kind always depends on seeing the world through someone else's eyes and helping your audience to experience that pov.

|
Yeah she plays a conservative in it but what I loved about it was, it was one of the few times where they guy had to change for HER -- and kind of changed for the better (she was a regular conservative, not a neocon, LOL!)
Probably from that part they assume she's a freeper or something, which is odd to put on somebody just playing a part.
Really it's a great movie, great for pre-teen girls. I get so sick of the women being "the sex break" in the movies. It's kind of the opposite of "Grease" where Olivia Newton-John totally changes and tarts up for this asshole who isn't even nice to her and it's a "happy ending" when he likes her transformation. I always hated that stupid movie!

|
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 11:38 PM by jdjkkse
It's about the only time I have ever seen the real experience of my two best friends in high school portrayed honestly, one was a self-avowed bad girl, the other wasn't but was cruelly stimatized because she had very large breasts.
edit: I love this song. In gay pride marches the drag queens always sing it but insert "become a baptist, spread some lies" after "I could flirt with all the guys".
Artist Lyrics: Grease Song Lyrics: There Are Worse Things I Could Do Album Lyrics: New Broadway Cast Recording
(Rizzo)
There are worse things I could do, Than go with a boy or two. Even though the neighborhood thinks I'm trashy, And no good, I suppose it could be true, But there are worse things I could do.
I could flirt with all the guys, Smile at them and bat my eyes. Press against them when we dance, Make them think they stand a chance, Then refuse to see it through. That's a thing I'd never do.
I could stay home every night, Wait around for Mr. Right. Take cold showers every day, And throw my life away, On a dream that won't come true.
I could hurt someone like me, Out of spite or jealousy. I dont steal and I dont lie, But I can feel and I can cry. A fact I'll bet you never knew. But to cry in front of you, That's the worse thing I could do.

who is a * supporter? If the person donates NO money to him, spends NO time campaigning for him, and the "support" only shows up when they vote their own misguided conscience? I personally wouldn't boycott someone simply for the way they vote, though I would be more inclined do to so if they use their celebrity status to actively support someone I didn't like. Then, they have chosen to make their politics an issue, and I will take that into consideration.

yankees are not what they used to be BUT none of the teams are....they are move around based on the money...their is no loyalty.....I don't live in ny and don't go to games any more.... I go to a local stadium which probably also is rethug...but they don't make much money if any off of me.... i bring my own water bottle and I go on promotion nights ...so I usually go home with something equivalent to what I spent....
so I guess there are no absolutes.....but sandler and simpson are up and coming stars...and I don't need to give them any of my money....
If can always buy used if I feel the urge to view them...but that money does not go back to them

as in mental process..resolve, entirely. It's being emotionally turned off--no performance engages, no empathetic experience is any longer possible. iow, their choice as a human being turns my stomach. As in Ca 'recall'-pol-vendetta. Hearing Lowe, James Caan (fits macho-mental there though), even Jamie Lee Curtis--all who especially in person defend RepublicanISM. They support the theft of all Americans..the debt they choose to pass on to our and their children..& their children, bring us to brink of deep economic depression, the extreme anti-wage earner/labor, they back up a monstrous invasion OF CHOICE..the LIES...all of it. The rejection comes from the core and center of conciousness.

First of all, it's obvious they didn't do their research considering they got atleast one wrong, second, what's the point?

She has a heck of alot more talent than the other teenage dreck that is out there today.
She's my 14 year olds favorite right now. She does not feel compelled to follow the Hollywood starlet/singer tract and has come out quite a bit about her personal discomfort with blatant sexual imagery with teen age girls. She refuses to photograph herself that way.
Her most recent album was a cover of other artists. Having had to listen to it in the car over and over again I'm not sick of it. That says alot!
Way to Go Mandy----

Using someones political beliefs to damage their career, janitor or movie star is just bad form. Either side. If these people are not being political it is unfair to force them to be.
It was wrong when McCarthy did it and wrong now. Nasty Business. Just my opinion.

I agree..I cringed everytime I saw the freepers attack the dixie chicks or another liberal celebrity. Here you people are doing the same against Adam et. al.
It's called an opinion. Learn to respect one.

No repuke could deliver lines like "I am FILLED with the spirit of the lord" and sling a bible at someone and live with themself.
I cannot believe Details could be so stupid.
Wouldn't it be great if she sues them for defamation!!!!

Hmmm, his movies are stupid but somewhat amusing. I decided to check www.opensecrets.org and there was one Adam Sandler that was found, from Simi Valley, CA (I'm assuming it's him) and it said he gave 500 bucks to John Conyers of MI, a very liberal congressman.
Maybe he's an Ed Koch type, who became all freaked out with terrorism...and maybe he supported the war in Iraq, or maybe he's a Likudnik...

| 82. This list sounds similar |
|
to another list I read by some group that was devoted to exposing "left-wing celebrities." This web site also had a list of "the good guys" or something like that, but their reasoning for the second list was pretty absurd. They put Adam Sandler on there b/c he had a statement on his web site in which he thanked the troops and said his thoughts were with them. Of course, that hardly makes him a right-winger. Plenty of the other names on the list were suspect too. I wish I could remember now what that web site was, but I kind of wonder if this list wasn't taken from theirs.
