ATHENS (Reuters)The re-election campaign for President Bush refused Thursday to pull an ad that has Olympic Games officials fuming.
"We are on firm legal ground to mention the Olympics to make a factual point in a political advertisement," Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said.
The International Olympic Committee, speaking at the Summer Games in Athens, said Thursday the Bush campaign was asked to withdraw the ad, saying no one had requested permission to use the Olympic name.
The ad has angered Olympic officials who feel it hijacks the Olympic brand -- a registered trademark -- even though it does not display the Games well-known five-ring logo. ..
