Man Detained at GOP Convention

NEW YORK - A man attending the Republican National Convention was detained for questioning at Madison Square Garden, the Secret Service said Tuesday. The unidentified man was detained at about 9:20 p.m. Monday on the convention floor for being in an area for which he did have credentials, Secret Service Agent Shannon Zeigler said.

Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) was in the hall at the time but "was never in any harm or danger," said Zeigler, who declined to say whether the man came near Cheney.
Cheney spokeswoman Anne Womack referred questions to the Secret Service. The Secret Service (news - web sites) was continuing to interview and investigate the man, Zeigler said.
