NAFTA rejects U.S. softwood claims
VANCOUVER - A NAFTA panel has rejected American claims that Canadian lumber imports threaten producers in the United States.
This is the third time the NAFTA panel has considered the U.S. Commerce Department's threat-of-injury argument.

Two previous attempts to justify the duties were sent back to the department for review. This time, the five-member panel said its decision was final.

It said the department's International Trade Commission had offered no fresh evidence to back its claims and that it was "simply unwilling to accept this panel's review authority ... and has consistently ignored the authority of this panel in an effort to preserve its finding of threat of material injury."

1. Canada signed NAFTA hoping the US would respect law.
And it won't, no matter what it signs, because the US, in matters of trade, respects power, not words. In other words, it only understands the use of force, in the various manners that a government can use force.

Which is why the US is seeing sanctions from the WTO.

2. Picture the U.S. Air Force
dropping incendiary devices all over British Columbia and Alberta forests a la Dresden. It could happen. Anything can happen under the * administration.

We are living a nightmare down here. Those fortunate enough to live in Canada are merely looking on in horror--for now.

4. Not only that...
http://www.cbc.ca/story/business/national/2004/08/31/wto_040831.html

TORONTO - The World Trade Organization gave Canada, the European Union and other countries the right to impose sanctions against the United States over illegally imposed trade fines.

Sanctions, who needs sanctions. Dubya certainly doesn't believe in sanctions.

Right, that's it.

I'm declaring war against the United States.

5. well, THAT is the problem the World is at war with Amerian Co.s
And the losses are measured in American jobs.

Personally I say dump the WTO, they clearly have a "let's get to the bottom as fast as possible" attitude. Such an attitude can only destroy the lives of scores of millions of Americans over the age of 50 how cannot hope to make a transition to a new economy.

Forced to fight a stupid war in the jungles of Vietnam and the streets of America, and to work off the debt of world wr 2, crippled by the stagflation of the 70's, and abandoned by a nation going "global."

Call the Baby Boom the "You are the too expensive generation" and you would approximate reality. We are fucked. That is all.
