Cheney Leads Sharp Republican Assault on Kerry

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney led the Republican convention's most stinging assault against Democrat John Kerry on Wednesday, depicting him as a weak and indecisive leader who was unfit to be commander in chief.

Cheney, one of President Bush's most influential advisers, said the Massachusetts senator who is challenging Bush for the White House had "a habit of indecision" and should not be entrusted with the White House.

"On Iraq, Senator Kerry has disagreed with many of his fellow Democrats, but Senator Kerry's liveliest disagreement is with himself," Cheney said in a speech accepting the party's nomination for a second term as vice president.

"His back and forth reflects a habit of indecision, and sends a message of confusion," he said, citing Kerry's votes to authorize war in Iraq and to support domestic initiatives that he has since criticized. "Senator Kerry says he sees two Americas. It makes the whole thing mutual -- America sees two John Kerrys."

5. Cheney got Kerry completely off the hook. Thanks Dick!!

When Kerry agreed with Bush he would have invaded Iraq it seemed a disaster. But. Kerry has in fact accepted the Bush/Cheney rational for the war which Cheney (bless his heart) has just confirmed. The more Cheney proves the war was necessary the more it now helps Kerry. This means that the only possible argument about the war now is one of military competence rather than political option. Since Bush has made a total dogs breakfast of this war, and Kerry now has the benefit of hindsight, he has them over a barrel. And, of course, he has started that dialog with his speech to the American Legion today

yeah all he did was lash out viciously at Kerry. This was the first day I watched the RNC and I saw some of Cheney and some of zigzag zell. But I couldn't watch their whole speeches...I just don't have the stomach.

Rove thinks dirty politics always pays. He doesn't seem to realize how vulnerable Bush/Cheney are really vulnerable this year. Too many people are out of work or tightening their belts because they are getting less pay. Too many people are sick of the phony sanctimoniousness in the White House and Congress. Too many truly moral Americans are disgusted with the Bush's lies, the Iraq War, Abu Ghraib, the corruption and the delay of almost three years in catching Osama. Bush and Cheney should be playing nice, but they aren't. What fools. What a stupid move. Or are they just more desperate than we realize?

13. I don't know exactly when this happened.

Never once, even when Nixon was caught breaking various laws,
even when Reagan was busy running up the debt and erasing
environmental laws and sic'ing Meese on us, never once did I
feel like "Gee, it would sure be nice to see all of these people
arrested, tried, and well, executed for treason.

The first time I felt that way was when Newt shut down the federal
government, and then later when they impeached a good man for a
mistake - and not a big one in my book. But since that time, I
often feel rage and anger. One outlet has been DU, another has been
to contribute money and time. But I still feel the anger, the rage.
I feel the rage again tonight. I feel 10 times more anger than
Mike Malloy.
