If George Bush wins a second term, several of his leading Cabinet members and top aides are planning to leave the administration.

Among the most likely to exit are Colin Powell and Condi Rice, USA Today reported Friday. ..

"Key Bush advisers such as national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General John Ashcroft will be among those who exit," USA Today reported.

that disgrace is looking at a California senate run. Feinstein is up in 2006. It might be an interesting race, if Condi ran as an Arnold-style Republican, and Arnold was out there busting his butt for her. My money would still be on Feinstein, assuming she runs, but it would be close. She picked up 56% of the vote against a fairly popular challenger in 2000, and she hasn't done anything politically dumb since then, but Condi could eat in to her base with women and minorities. This would be a race to watch.

Remember, every vote that leaves Feinstein counts twice in effect, once out of the Feinstein column, and once in the Rice column. It's a zero sum game. 56% is a solid, but not dominating, margin of victory. If Condi can siphon off 20% of the black vote, that hurts Feinstein bad, because you know Rice will do well with name recognition, so she's going to do OK with undecideds. So to make this a horse race, Rice has to start with the 45% or so who voted against Feinstein in 2000, and then make decent inroads into the black vote. Instant horse race. She's pro-choice and a woman, so she neutralizes one of Feinstein's advantages, plus she's a "tough" former NSA, which should improve her standing with men vis a vis Feinstein. And then the fucktarded Greens smell blood and see the spotlight and an opportunity to throw yet another temper tantrum, and push Camejo, or maybe the ridiculous Medea Benjamin, to steal 2-3% or so. And it's Senator Rice to you.

The more I look at this, the more worried I am, in fact. At first I thought the idea of Rice beating Feinstein was ludicrous, but when I looked closer it makes sense. I still think the Dems would pull it out with a hard push, but it wouldn't be easy.

7. This sounds suspicious to me. Those are precisely the people...

...who party moderates would want to see leave the administration. Is this just more of that pseudo-makeover that began at their convention? They're showing the world a reasonable face but, behind the scenes, they're reassuring their extremist base and corporate paymasters that nothing will change.

I seriously doubt it will. The propaganda clique led by Rove and Hughes are not generally good at projecting an image of positivity. Their bread and butter is made in attack politics. This isn't a new point, but the fact that USA Today (:wtf:) can break a story like this is evident of the coming Great Unraveling of the GOP.

The job of the republican propagandists is to hide this stuff, i.e. never show weakness, never be candid (without a script, at least). I'm just finding this completely bizarre.
