Bobby Fischer wins injunction against deportation order

TOKYO Chess great Bobby Fischer has won a court injunction that will keep him in Japan at least a little longer.

His supporters say a Tokyo court has ruled he can stay there until his lawsuit against being deported to the U-S is heard. His lawyers are now urging Japanese immigration officials not to appeal the injunction.

Fischer's been detained in Japan since trying to travel on an expired passport in July. He is wanted in the U-S for allegedly violating international sanctions by taking part in a 1992 chess match in the former Yugoslavia.

Fischer says he wants to renounce his U-S citizenship and apply for political asylum in a third nation.
