WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Money and people channeled from Iran fuel the insurgency in Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an interview published on Wednesday.
"They have put people in there. They have put money in there," Rumsfeld said in an interview with The Washington Times. "By 'they,' I'm not going to say which element of the government or whether it's even known to the government. But money has come in from Iran. People have come in from Iran."

He gave no further details. Iran has denied previous charges of meddling in Iraq.

Rumsfeld said it was "a very difficult thing to stop" because Iran has shown by its behavior that it is "not part of the civilized world."

He said the deaths were part of the cost of going on the offensive against terrorism and related the count to attacks ranging from recent Russian school deaths to the Sept. 11 strikes three years ago. "When combined with U.S. losses in other theaters in the global war on terror, we have lost well more than 1,000 already," he said, according to Cox News Service.

Bush 'miscalculated' on Iraq? More like lied

President George W. Bush admitted to the New York Times that he "miscalculated" on Iraq. Miscalculated?

In 2002, the Bush administration formed the Office of Special Plans (OSP) in the Pentagon and tasked it to sift through intelligence on Iraq. Quickly, the neoconservative- saturated OSP justified an invasion based on a WMD threat, as Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz put it, "the one reason everyone could agree on."

But why create another intelligence entity? The traditional intelligence community (CIA, DIA, State Department and NSA) disagreed that Saddam Hussein was a credible threat to U.S. security. As late as February 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell said, "(Iraq) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction." Without the OSP, no solid case for war existed.

Oddly enough, conservative commentator Stephen Hayes outs the OSP in his book by exposing its reliance on Ahmed Chalabi. Chalabi, an Iraqi expatriate mistrusted by the CIA and State Department, maintained he had proof of a burgeoning Iraqi nuclear program and ties to al-Qaida. After ceding as flawed his information on Iraqi WMDs, Chalabi lied to Martin Smith of "Frontline" about the document "proving" an Iraq-al-Qaida connection.

In an interview with retired intelligence analyst Greg Thielmann, "Frontline" uncovered that not only had the OSP trusted Chalabi, but had also passed to the White House intelligence on Iraq that was slanted; what Thielmann called "faith-based intelligence," "dishonest," "distorted" and "alarmist." On the CIA side, interim director John McLaughlin defended the agency's prewar intelligence: "There was ample material for serious debate. So, if there wasn't serious debate, it's not the fault of the people who prepared (the reports)."

Treason in high places: Pentagon zionists, AIPEC and Israel

The FBI investigation into Israeli espionage agents in the Pentagon is part of a major struggle between prominent Zionists in the Pentagon and the US security apparatus. Ever since the Bush regime came to power there has been a fierce political and organizational war between the Pentagon Zionists and their militarist collaborators, on the one hand, and the professional military and intelligence apparatus, on the other. This conflict has manifested itself in a series of major issues including the war in the Middle East, the rational for war, the relationship between Israel and the US, the strategy for empire, as well as tactical issues like the size of military force needed for colonial wars and the nature of colonial occupation. Investigations and evidence are usually enough to proceed with indictments, interrogations and the pursuit of the leaders and foreign handlers in a major espionage case, especially in wartime. The ‘underground’ struggle between the Pentagon Zionists and the US security apparatus will continue. If Bush is re-elected, Wolfowitz will most likely become Secretary of Defense. If Kerry is elected, the closet Zionist, Richard Holbrooke, will take charge of the Pentagon.

American citizens will have to face a serious question: If the security services are incapable of defending our country from foreign espionage in high places – What is to be done?

If you think about it, solving small problems by turning them into large ones makes sense for a number of reasons. First, you can get a lot more sense of urgency (from those who need to be involved in the solution) for a big problem than for a small one. Taking the bigger picture allows you to transform your small problem into a symptom of a bigger, deeper issue -- one that also involves symptoms felt by others. If solving the big global problem solves some local problem for others, then there’s something in it for them as well.

James Gordon Meek reports that both FBI investigations of leaks from the Pentagon concern in part secret US intelligence on Iranian weapons of mass destruction programs. The FBI suspects that this intelligence was leaked to AIPAC and the Israelis on the one hand, and to Ahmad Chalabi on the other. Chalabi in turn is suspected of passing the information on to Tehran, playing the role of double agent. Although the FBI seems to be keeping the two inquiries separate, there is strong circumstantial evidence that there was a behind-the-scenes connection between Chalabi and the Israelis. That is, the information circuit may have been ingrown among the Neoconservatives, the Israelis and Chalabi's people.

It should be noted that Chalabi, the Neoconservatives, and Israel's Likud Party were allied in wanting to get up a US war against Iraq. But they were divided on the next stage, which was to get Washington to attack Iran, as well. Chalabi hates Saddam, but as an Iraqi Shiite has strong ties to Tehran, so he was not actually on board with Stage Two, and may have helped derail it, for which he is now hated in some Neoconservative circles.

At the beginning of the war our government brought an exiled cleric in to southern Iraq via helicopter from Iran. He had been in exile since the first Gulf War. International reports at the time stated he had millions of US dollars on him as a menas of buying support among the Shia in the south. He and IIRC his nephew were hacked to death in from of a mosque by a huge angry mob. It just goes to show how bush* co miscalculated from the start.
Add to that the Russians have been building the nuclear power plant in Iran and we vacated the AF base while Russia was working out a sweet oil deal with Saudi.
