SALEM, Ore. - Democrats are leading Republicans by almost two-to-one in their efforts to register new voters for the November election.
That, according to voter data released yesterday.

The Registration figures released from the Oregon Elections Division show that over 74-thousand people have been to the voter rolls in the last six months.

And of those new voters, over 33-thousand are Democrats. Only around 17-thousand have signed on as Republicans. The rest have registered as independents. Or else minor-party members.

4. I'm seeing this as a national trend.

We're outpacing GOP voter registration almost everywhere. I wonder if this is indicative of how fired-up our base is compared to theirs?

This is a wonderful trend, especially if other states are experiencing something similar. I think they are. The likely voter in most polls has had to vote in a previous election, so it seems most polls are not gaging the droves of new voters who will stop chimpy from running this country into the ground.

6. Common sense dictates that this is a nationwide trend.

Although I don't have any stats, IMO it is reasonable to assume that Democrats have registered more voters in almost every state, if not in every state, than republicans. The ratio would naturally vary from state to state, depending on if it is a red state, a blue state, or a swing state.

Since Oregon is generally considered a swing state, it is probably somewhat representative of other swing states in proportion of new voters registered D and R, give or take a few thousand registrants either way.

Democrats have a big advantage in the upcoming election: Bu$h pissed us all off big time by stealing the 2000 election. Many Dems have been working relentlessly to get him out of office since that time. Also, Bu$h is seen by most Dems as an evil, destructive, and dangerous fool after what he has done to our country over the past 3+ years, and are therefore highly motivated to register new voters out of basic survival instinct. Also, anyone with half a brain can see the rotten job Bu$h has done as pResident and will be motivated to vote him out.

Republicans have an active base but don't have much to work with. Bu$h is their worst nightmare, and a fair number of republicans will jump ship this year because of him. An example would be the Log Cabin Republicans, who are not endorsing Bu$h this year.

I have never gone out and registered voters before this year, and although I've been somewhat politically active all my life, this year it is my main focus. Bu$h's insanity has motivated me to work against him almost fanatically.

I'm getting absentee ballots for 2 Dems today. They are registered voters but they are retired and lazy and live in Mexico and would not vote unless someone put the spurs to them.

Democrats widen gap over Republicans in Nevada voter registration

Nevada's voter registration total now stands at nearly 1 million,
with Democrats increasing their margin over Republicans,
reports from state and local election officials showed Friday.

The total of at least 967,676 voters -- a record -- includes
945,981 Nevadans eligible to vote in Tuesday's primary, the
secretary of state's office said. Others, because they missed the
deadline for the primary, can vote only in the Nov. 2 general
election.

A breakdown of the registration figures, updated to show the
latest changes in Nevada's biggest counties, Clark and Washoe,
show the 967,676 registered-voter total includes 393,445
Democrats and 389,858 Republicans -- a 3,587-registrant edge
for the Democrats.

Statewide, Democrats account for 40.7 percent of the registered
voters while Republicans represent 40.3 percent of the total.
The rest are nonpartisans and splinter-party members.

My sister, a Nevada resident, has been working on voter registration drives in the Reno area...KUDOS to her. A FWIW thingy: she just recently sat on a round-table discussion panel with Elizabeth Edwards in Reno...Sis, the Independent, liked what she heard. She also believes the majority of the nonpartisans/independents in Nevada will vote kerry!

100,245 new voters were registered between July 1 and September 1.

40,552 registered Democrat
33,254 registered Republican
26,056 registered unaffiliated

I guess that the rest registered Libertarian - don't have the stats on that.
