'Liar' Blair Must Quit over War, Say Activists

Tony Blair’s resignation for “misleading” the country in the run-up to war in Iraq was demanded by a series of speakers at the Liberal Democrat conference today.

Donnachadh McCarthy (Camberwell and Peckham) said: “Tony Blair lied to the British people. Tony Blair authorised an illegal war. Tony Blair is responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent Iraqi men and women.

“Tony Blair betrayed our troops ... there were no weapons of mass destruction.”

To cheers, he added: “Surely in the light of (UN secretary general) Kofi Annan’s statement (that the war was illegal) it is time for Blair to go.” <snip>
