Battalion commander Lt. Col. Henrik Flach and three other officers were recalled from Iraq last month in a prisoner abuse scandal which has stunned the egalitarian Scandinavian country.
If found guilty of breaking military law, Flach could face up to a year in prison.
The United States and Britain have already charged a number of their soldiers with sexually abusing or assaulting Iraqis.
