Congressional Race Very Close In U.S.

(CPOD) Sept. 15, 2004 – The outcome of the United States congressional election might depend on actual turnout, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 48 per cent of registered American voters say they would vote for the Democratic candidate in their district, while 44 per cent would support the Republican. In a sample of likely voters—allocated in accordance to current voting intentions and past voting behaviour—the Republicans hold a two per cent lead over the Democrats. <snip>

I have not been impressed with Wagner's campaign. Where are the bumper stickers? Where is his name plastered all over. Grrrrrrr... Nobody's gonna know him come election day and it's gonna be Gallegly vs. anti-Gallegly just like the Presidential race.

His internet campaign drive consists, so far, of an e-mail begging for $100,000. It doesn't take too much to set up a good website. Let us know what the stakes are, what we need to do, how much we need to raise, how close we are, etc. Have these people learned nothing from Dean and MoveOn and even the Kerry campaign?

I believe in the first or second one he wrote, he mentioned he is gay. He doesn't make a huge issue of it, but doesn't back away from it either. I think he said it something like, "It's a part of who I am, but it's not all that I am."

Anyway, even if I were still the homophobe that I was 10 to 12 years ago, I'd still vote for Wagner. He's THAT good.

She is telling the truth on the Repuke incumbant, who has done little to help military/veterans, senior citizens, and kids. He's the one who initiated the bill that would allow churches to endorse political candidates and not lose their tax exempt status.

While we're surveying hot Congressional races, a young and little-known Democrat is running against Rob Simmons in Connecticut's Second District, the eastern third of the state.

Jim is running as a real Democrat, not a shadow Republican, and his message is getting through; I think there's a serious chance that we will win this seat in November. Simmons is well-financed, and he is not a Freeper; but he finds himself having to run away from B*/C* and their execrable administration, which is deeply unpopular here.

Of course, any help is welcome. If you want to follow a Congressional contest that promises to be a load of fun, I'll try to keep posting newslinks and opinionations in the Connecticut DU forum.

12. They key to any election is getting out your vote

I've worked on several successful campaigns. At the volunteer thank you banquet, one of the candidates told her secret for getting elected.

1. Identify your supporters.

2. Get your supporters to the poll stations if you have to drag them there kicking and screaming.

The Democratic Party has sufficient supporters to carry all branches of government. All they have to do is avoid them being disenfranchsized (Florida) or their votes not being counted (Florida, BBV) and get them to the polling booth despite police or poll worker interference.
