From the website of the Cherokee nation,
http://www.cherokee.org/NewsArchives/announcements/2004-Coburn-Altus.asp"It is one thing for us to keep our obligations to recognize Native Americans, but it’s a totally different thing for us to allow a primitive agreement with the Native Americans to undermine Oklahoma ’s future and that’s what they’re talking about doing and it’s big money."
It's interesting that treaties with the tribes are "primitive." He for one is a constitutional literalist who demands that only the original intent of the Constitution is valid, anything after the 18th century is tinkering.
