A child has been abducted from Topeka, Kansas in SE Nebraska. The Topeka, KS PD is looking for a child who was last seen at Topeka, Kansas and is believed to be in danger. The child's name is Stormy Shirk.

couldn't they have picked a kid whose name wasn't a colour to name them after?
when i first heard about an "amber alert", I assumed it had something to do with that colour-coded terror warning crapola, and paid it no nevermind

at the time, it was to remember 9-year old Amber Hagerman, who wasn't found in time. Tragic story.

I was driving to the airport yesterday during one of these alerts, and the traffic slowed to a crawl at every sign. Annoying, but they seem to work, so I am willing to be inconvenienced if this is an effective method. Getting the word out quickly about a missing child seems to be the key.

Once is Kerry is elected, that other stupid color-coded alert thing will be gone, and Amber Alert will have it's rightful meaning back.
