MONTREAL (CP) - Afghanistan, not Iraq, will likely be the primary focus of NATO's fight against terrorism for a generation to come, Canada's ambassador to the military alliance said Thursday.
"No other region will influence our common security for years to come," Jean-Pierre Juneau said in a speech to the Conseil des relations internationales de Montreal.
While the United States has directed its military power and 130,000 troops to Iraq, NATO's primary global theatre in the fight against terrorism remains Afghanistan, he later told reporters.
Despite the claims of U.S. President George W. Bush, Juneau said he doesn't view the situation in Iraq as a battle against terrorism.
