Are you near Edwall?? I lived in Clark county Washington from 1942 to 1956. Used to ride horseback thru the St Helens area. A relative of our was going to try to open the Red Barn Cafe in Edwall last month. Haven't heard if they got it done.

They both have fire in their belly. That's why Kerry is going to win.
Kerry wants to really really help America...Bush just wants to beat Daddy.

...it shouldn't be as bad as last time, because it hasn't been building as long.
(Fingers crossed anyway.)

where the ash lands is very fertile. That's why people near Etna, the volvano in Costa Rica, still keep farming there.

here in Portland, Oregon. We've been watching the Torment of the Tornadoes from a distance. It's sad, but it just doesn't affect you like your roof was about to blow.
Now this. Thanks for the info, rs.

But was living in Salem when St. Helens blew on 5/18/80--two days before my daughter's 10th birthday. She's 34 now and her oldest boy is 10--her age when the "big one" happened. Yikes! You don't think...nah! Couldn't be! Anyway, I clearly recall the ash that piled up in Salem following the 2nd eruption on May 25th. Still have a vial of it from our front yard as a "souvenir" of the Big Blow. I'd feel safer over here, but there's a bulge on one of the Sisters, so maybe I'd better not get too smug. I do have a healthy respect for Mother Nature and her ability to keep us all humble!
Hang in there and remember: BUSH MUST GO!!

| 19. I was in Montana when Mt. St. Helen's blew in 1980 |
|
That was an amazing event, even from several hundred miles away. When the ash came through the place I was at that night (near the Canadian border) you could hardly see your hand in front of your face. Of course we had spent most of the night in a little roadside bar (we had a motel), so that may have impaired the vision a bit too...

If anything happens, it's more likely to be magma building on the dome than anything resembling 1980.
It's all part of the process. There are quakes like this on nearly every large mountain in the Cascades every year.
