urabi has denied his party's involvement in a coup plot
Some 28 people, mostly members of the security forces, have been charged with trying to overthrow Sudan's government, the official Suna news agency reports.
They were accused of declaring war on the state, planning to assassinate political leaders and cut communication links, Suna says.
It is not clear whether they are from the Islamist opposition party, which has been accused of plotting a coup.
The government says the group is allied to rebels in the Darfur region.
