Poll shows military has doubts
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 10:03 AM by JoFerret

WASHINGTON - Members of the military and their families say the Bush administration underestimated the number of troops needed in Iraq (news - web sites) and put too much pressure on inadequately trained National Guard and reserve forces, according to a poll released Saturday.

The National Annenberg Election Survey found that 62 percent in the military sample said the administration didn't send an adequate number of troops to Iraq. And 59 percent said too much of a burden has been put on the National Guard and the reserves when regular forces should have been expanded instead.

Family members were more critical of the administration's Iraq policy than those on active duty.

This critical view comes from a military group that has a more favorable view of President Bush (news - web sites), Iraq, the economy and the nation's direction than Americans in general.

3. Weren't there some showing of F9-11 in Iraq?
Would seem there are a few officers taking their concerns and doing something about them. Bravo for the true leaders in the military!

13. That movie is dynomite
My copy is floating my coworkers households. But one them also rented it and couldn't stop talking to me after he had seen it. It' too bad better marketing couldn't have been done so more people could have known. Thank goodness they stuck their foot in it at the beginning :kick:

6. Sort of a duplicate

Same survey ( Annenburg, but with a twist)

I think I'll leave this thread up just because it's so interesting that two articles about the same thing could have such a different spin in the headline.

7. I can see how the two articles are consistent
It's true that traditionally the military is overwhelmingly Republican, at least in the officer corps. So they are "upbeat" relative to the rest of the nation. But this year they're critical of Bush, so the other headline is true, too.

11. And now...the rest of the story
This is the same poll that the WH and lackey press have been trumpeting as being a positive for Bush?

Ha!

They just keep mentioning that 69% approve of W.....that has to be way lower than Rove et al were expecting.

12. The Wash Post
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 10:04 AM by BlueNomad
did an interesting piece on that poll yesterday (Saturday) and alot of things struck me that of course are not being covered in the media, for example, how high Powell's favorability was and how low Rumsfeld's was (I think I read 80 to 52 or so).

The poll's numbers on the plan to get out were not good, and also don't forget a very high number of those polled self identified as Republican. There was a wide chasm as I recall there which would make one think if it had been weighted more closely between the parties obviously it would have been a quite different result. Republicans in civilian life are also strongly support Bush--They've been put in there place and are not meandering like we Demos seem to love to do.

On another front, one of the Sunday pundits mistakenly said military and their families. The poll I read was not polling the spouses, parents and voting age children of the soldiers and I daresay, that support would not be as high. Some of the spouses especially here in the Wash Metro area have growing animosity over this President and his arrogance. That rose colored glasses and swagger thing is not helping....nor does that "mutiny" tale of contaminated fuel and unescorted vehicles.... Yes. Military will go to Bush--the question is how favorably compared to Clinton or Gore for example.
