Blackwell offers 'barnyard' take on gay marriage

Secretary of State Ken Blackwell is under fire for saying that same-sex marriage is so absurd that it defies "barnyard logic."

That's a lot of bull, responded a gay-rights champion, who called Blackwell an expert in spreading "manure."

And a top Democrat wondered whether the comments represented "compassionate conservatism."

The flap began Tuesday night when Blackwell told members of a Toledo-area church, "I don't know how many of you have a farming background, but I can tell you right now that notion even defies barnyard logic . . . the barnyard knows better."
