Police find two cars packed with bombs in Iraqi holy city

Security forces in Iraq have arrested two men after finding two cars laden with bombs amid warnings from clerics that Saddam Hussein loyalists or Al Qaeda members will strike over the next two days, officals said Monday.


"Yesterday we seized the same kind of car filled with bombs," he said, adding that that car was driven by two men from Yemen.

The two men detained Monday were from the southern Iraqi city of Basra, he said.

3. I firmly believe the Saudi's are deeply involved in all of this.

The last thing they want to see is Iraq's oil flowing freely outside the aegis of OPEC. All they have to do is ship their own radicals over into Iraq with a bit of financial support and chances are the Iraqi oil won't start flowing for a long time.

OPEC right now. With AMerican & British PetroCorps controlling pipelines and Iraqi oil, the balance of power will shift significantly.

11. I can only imagine that the "grapevine" that must be operating

with the Iraqi population under occupation by what might be considered a hostile force (US) is pretty darn busy. It's probably a lot more accurate and complete than Bushco's intelligence.

It seems obvious to me the Saudis have been complicit in many covert operations over the last few years (along with Israel - though for different purposes and results <I have nothing historically against Israel, btw, so please don't take that addition in the wrong way>) that have been to the detriment of the USA.

Why put up with it? Why not get to the bottom, get all Americans upset about it, and do something about it? My only answer is the years of complicity and duplicity between the covert USA agencies and the Saudis. Like a huge, worldwide Mafia run by governments.

of organizations to be taken out. That other sources of petroleum have proliferated in the last twenty years has already weakened the ability of OPEC to control prices in world markets; PNAC is just putting slamming the coffin-lid and bolting it down.

The pipelines are constantly being hit, though what does that mean for Halliburton? More work. What's it mean for the oil companies? Restricted supply, higher prices and... higher profits.

If it weren't for all the death and destruction in the news, I doubt the administration would care if we ever got that oil flowing again.

The money that can be made by Halliburton in repairing the pipelines is nothing compared to the money they can make by controlling a fully functioning the Iraqi oilfields.

15. I don't think so. Here's why:

To make those oilfields actually profitable will require many years (and control of the pipelines), and BILLIONS of dollars before they go in the black on it. However, the sky-high gas prices right now are resulting in massive profits for the oil companies. They don't cut costs when prices go up - they simply pass it on. You can think of the Halliburton stuff as icing on the cake and perpetual work.

18. Look ahead a few years....

Unless the Bush Junta is stopped, they will control it and rest assured that Blair's efforts will be repaid.

There will be more money involved by taking a cut from each barrel that comes out (for administrative costs only, I'm sure), coupled with lucrative maintenance & construction contracts for KB & R than you or I could possibly imagine. And I can imagine a LOT of money.
