Latin American Women Farmers Renew Commitment to Development
Guatemala, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Women farmers from 19 Latin American and Caribbean countries renewed their commitment Tuesday to seek development of the sector and demand an end to neoliberal policies.
Delegates to the 3rd Continental Assembly of Country Women convened by the Latin American Coordinator of Country Organizations (CLOC) said that neoliberalism affected their culture, economy and daily work.
After two-days of discussion and analysis of issues faced by women farmers, the participants demanded the right of women farmers and indigenous in the world to a decent life.
They also denounced that "poverty, neoliberal policies, globalization, violence and the lack of a State policy to achieve development are scourges seriously affecting us," a delegate told Prensa Latina.
According to the final declaration, delegates reiterated their rejection of "the authoritarian rule of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter American Development Bank."
