If she is 'supporting' Obama it is to further her agenda. She is consumed with hatred for Clinton.
If you have followed Paglia's career you would know that she is not a friend of Democrats and progressives at all.

affirmative action. She's a libertarian (on drug and homosexuality issues), but other than that, she spouts classical RW views. Her published hatred for Hillary Clinton dates back to the first Clinton administration, when she allied with the likes of Limbaugh and others to destroy Hillary personally for her attempts to address health care reform.
Most here know I'm still agnostic on any particular candidate, but I do step in when I see one being attacked via RW talking points or RW-initiated dirty tricks. I'd like to think all DUers would hold to that level of integrity, no matter which candidate's "goose is getting gored."

I've long been disgusted that Salon gives her a column. But, this IS a progressive website. Her viewpoints on any of our candidates has no place here. If you believe she is voting for Hillary (or Obama) if nominated, I've got exotic land for you to buy. Do a search of her columns to see who she really is. I'm sick and tired of our falling for RW talking points and using them against our own candidates, no matter who the candidate is.

and I think you know I continue to be undecided on the candidates (and from that sense, as "honest broker" as I can be), but citing Paglia is beyond the realm.
The OP or any other poster should criticize Hillary Clinton or any of the candidates as they feel appropriate. Just don't drag in RW sources to do so.

censor anyone very disconcerting. Paglia is very controversial, so if you don't like her, you don't need to read it. She claims to be a Dem and said she'd vote for Clinton in the article though I've been informed she's universally disliked and distrusted here. Still, I think there's not much wrong with posting any article and let people make their own decisions. The knee-jerk reactions around here are stunning, and I'll bet most people didn't even bother to read what she wrote. And for the record, I posted the same article in GD-P and am getting the same grief. Lesson learned, but it's kind of sad. And to my knowledge, Salon is not a r/w rag.

|
Horowitz, noted holocaust-deniers, Drudge, and the like? No, I agree (with my subscription $$, no less, that Salon is not a r/w rag), but for us to disseminate talking points from known RWers, who have a vested interest in defeating liberal progressives, is nuts.
We see (all too frequently) a propagation of obvious lies--that have been since discounted-- when some of this crap is posted without explanation or qualification on the source. Obviously some of our newbies, or more casual readers may not automatically know the background issues with a given poster. I know you've been around to see the "circle jerk" of disseminated postings that can dominate DU as a result. I don't want DUers to become the source of this propaganda and outright lies when we go out as activists into the community. Thus, we have a responsibility to call out some of these sources or --as per DU rules and regs-- to ban their posting as a source at all. I agree that Paglia is more intermediate in that definition, given her columns appear in Salon, far from a RW rag. Nonetheless, we certainly should call the source for what it is and make sure readers understand the historical issues with that particular writer and their well-documented biases and agendas.

| 20. Well, consider her 'called out', on both threads! |
|
I did a wiki search prior to posting; she's not a known r/wer on there though her 'friends' are questionable, and her appearance in Salon would seem to support that. But whatever, people can make up their own minds if they bother to read the piece. And as I've said elsewhere, I just threw it out there as I do lots of things; sometimes people read, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they like a post, sometimes they don't. I can rarely tell what, if any, the reaction might be. Well, except this person, now.

It's important to remember that she's an academic first, the kind that takes bizarre positions just to be controversial. It seems to have worked.
She was a Bill Clinton voter in the 90s and a Nader voter in 00. Last I knew she was an Edwards supporter (although she might have changed to Obama, as Al Federfer mentioned). But she has a raw, visceral outlook that puts her in opposition to the more noble or humanist elements in liberalism. Her admirers in the right wing (of which there are many) are like Democratic admirers of Ron Paul.
Having said that, her specialty is gender roles and identity throughout history, literature, and culture. In that sense, Hillary Clinton is a perfect subject.

and defending her here requires a flameretardant suit. But she has a very interesting (not to mention unique) point of view.
Sometimes you just need a caustic voice against sanctimony, even if it's against your own side. People are so used to straight partisanship that they fail to make the distinction.

and that's her job title. The only reason she gets any attention at all is because of her virulent anti-feminism and ultra-con views ("Look! Not all lesbians are liberal Dems!"). Stop reading and posting GOP propaganda, Al - if you want to remain here, that is.
