| DeLay quietly discussing stepping down as Speaker - about to be indicted? |
|
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) has begun quiet discussions with a handful of colleagues about the possibility that he will have to step down from his leadership post temporarily if he is indicted by a Texas grand jury investigating alleged campaign finance abuses. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_03/003543.phpI know there's a lot in the news right now, but it's a bit shocking that the GOP's number one guy (in practice, if not in title) in Congress is probably going to be indicted and it isn't getting any play at all. http://atrios.blogspot.com/2004_03_21_atrios_archive.html#108023420031530153

...would make one hell of a T-shirt.
On edit: I'm almost starting to believe that there is a God. So many of the assholes in this adminstration are starting to take it in the mouth. Could good actually triumph over evil now and then?

This azzhole should be censured and thrown out of his post. His fellow Rethuglicans will not allow that.

I used to live in his district. As a Republican constituent, I tried to engage him in some dialog during the debates giving China MFN status. I guess I wasn't a big enough contributor, because he simply ignored my phone calls and email. So my take on this? It couldn't happen to a nicer guy...
I vote that Sugarland vote another, more responsive Republican, to fill his spot.

I'll echo #5, in spades. And I am even a precinct chair in the district.
I hoped and prayed that my part of south Harris County would be moved to another district, but I'm still stuk with DeLay. I would vote for a credible opponent in a heartbeat -- for exactly the kind of reasons mentioned above.

I live in Delay's district. While I can't fault what he's done for the Republicans on a national level, representing his actual constituents is not high on his list of priorities.
