2009 MacArthur nonprofit grant recipients

Eight "MacArthur Awards for Creative and Effective Institutions" are being given to nine nonprofit organizations, with two sharing an award. The awards from the MacArthur Foundation carrying grants of up to $650,000. Here are the 2009 winners:

_Access to Justice, Lagos, Nigeria. Seeks to prevent police abuse, eliminate torture and promote accountability for extra-judicial killings.

_Caribbean Natural Resource Institute, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Helps governments in the Caribbean deal effectively with the challenges of the climate crisis and economic turmoil through efforts to resolve conflicts between environmental and development goals.

_Center for Neighborhood Technology, Chicago, Illinois. Works with cities and regions to analyze greenhouse gas emissions and identify mitigation strategies ... <more>
