If you tuned in expecting to see "American Idol" last Tuesday and wound up instead watching President George W. Bush's nationally televised news conference, you probably were left with more questions than answers.
That certainly was true for the reporters in the East Room of the White House, who tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to get straight answers from the president.
If Simon Cowell, the irascible judge on "American Idol," had a crack at Bush's performance, he might have told the president what he told one hapless singer: "That was extraordinary - unfortunately, extraordinarily bad."
Even the kinder, gentler Idol judges, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, would have a hard time finding something positive to say about Bush's rare prime-time appearance before the media.
