House GOP blocks bill to extend jobless benefits

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans in the House on Thursday blocked a bill that would have extended jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed beyond the holiday season.

An extension of jobless benefits enacted this summer expires Dec. 1, and unless they are renewed, two million people will lose benefits averaging $310 a week nationwide by the end of December.

The failed measure would have extended jobless benefits through the end of February at a cost of adding $12.5 billion to the nation's debt. Republicans opposing the legislation said the measure should be paid for by cutting unspent money from last year's economic stimulus bill.

The White House criticized Congress for voting to cut off unemployment benefits with the holiday break approaching.

10. Corporate Lobbyist party is still doing everything they can to prevent or weaken any

recovery from the Deregulation Disaster they caused. Keeping unemployment insurance benefits in place should NOT REQUIRE REVENUE NEUTRALITY. We are in a Depression. People are out of work. Cutting off these payments will only make matters worse.

Republicorp's expressions of concern about Deficit are of course a hypocritical. They filibustered the Small Business Aid bill - and IT WAS REVENUE NEUTRAL - MEANING IT WAS PAID FOR! BUT THEY STILL FILIBUSTERED IT!!

Democrats fast-tracked this bill to get it passed without delay so there will be no break in coverage. The bill once passed (or I should say if Republicorp allows it's passage) in the House has to then pass the Senate. Time is of the essence here.

IT's interesting how the Corporate Lobbyist party thinks it's acceptable for them to have no sense of responsibility (even for helping fix the disaster they created) and it's all the Democrats fault if they can't get a 2/3rds majority to pass a bill.
