Is the Obama Administration Helping Turn America Into a Police State?

The Obama administration's efforts to obtain Twitter-account information about key individuals connected to WikiLeaks amounts to a declaration of war on those who would reveal government wrongdoing, according to a prominent whistleblower in Alabama.

Dana Jill Simpson, an attorney who revealed wrongdoing in the Bush-era prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, said Obama's actions are a first step toward limiting the First Amendment rights of journalists to protect their sources.

Simpson also decried reports that Obama is considering an Internet ID system for all Americans. Said Simpson:

"Whistleblowers have known for a long time that the Obama administration doesn't respect the desire of whistleblowers to bring truth to our nation's shores. The Obama Administration would rather hide the lies our government tells our citizens and prosecute the whistleblowers. It is easier, they think, than admitting the truth. The fact is that that our government has been lying to us about wars and other foreign affairs. I guess this is Obama's way of "looking forward." He wants to ignore the lies our government and its officials told the citizens for the last 10 years.

3. Don't mock this.

This has nothing to do with tin foil or other fantasies at all.

Telling the truth isn't exactly our government's strong point, but the damage is compounded when they persecute whistleblowers.

But for now... we elect liars who are controlled by the Beltway Powers..... and those with the money will control our destiny.

Transparency....... honesty...... integrity.............

we'd hope for in President Obama... but evidently even HE isn't immune to the Powers and Politics in place.

I'm not sure ANYONE will ever be able to 'tame the beast'. Defeatist I know. I wish it wasn't so.

5. Turn the clock back a few years...

911, 'Patriot Act', PNAC. This country could have followed up on any of this but no. I don't think the police state was Obama's idea. Can he stop it? I don't know. Rachel Maddow says that there are over 90 guns for every 100 Americans in this country. Good luck rounding the folks up without much blood lost. My guess is that we are already corralled in this country of ours, with this broken media and broken government, banks and Wall Street having emptied the citizens pockets. Just where are we going. Imprisoned by our lack of funds and mobility.

8. Obama

Has about as much to do with what goes on in the US as I do. I fully expected to see Habeas Corpus returned, investigations in to the Bush crimes, etc. Obama is just a puppet.
