The great joys of the election cycle have returned: Interminable debates! Arcane caucus rules! Premature polls that set the narrative! With (only) seven and a half months to go until the Iowa caucuses, the primary's first Des Moines Register poll is out, and it confirms that Mitt Romney is indeed the front runner in Iowa. He's up by one point over native daughter Michele Bachmann, who's polling expectedly well with "very conservative caucusgoers" and well-educated people between 45 and 64. The best news for Bachmann is that 18 percent of voters said that Bachmann is their second choice ...

I don't see Willard Romney's voters tredging through snow on a Tuesday night to go vote for him. Bachman's voters would jump off of a bridge if they were told to.

But, watching the Repukes do battle to see which one gets beaten by Obama is sort of like watching a cockfight without having laid down a bet.

When I look at the rest of the poll, I see Bachmann being able to pick up more support from the also-rans as they drop out that Mitt does. Hell, Herman Cain still gets ten percent in that poll, and anyone who would support him would support a buffoon like Bachmann in a heartbeat.
