Now that John Kerry has settled on John Edwards as his running mate, one has to ask: Has President Bush really settled on his?

Officially, administration officials say there is no chance that Vice President Cheney will leave the campaign. But the "Dump Cheney" rumors continue to swirl in the press, fueled by a steady infusion of feeble poll results, poor reviews from the campaign trail, Cheney's own foul mouth, persistent Halliburton scandals and his continued and unsupported insistence on strong links between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda.

And then there was this weekend's revelation that the doctor who has repeatedly assured us all that Cheney is fit to serve was allegedly illegally using narcotics. (Don't forget that the "Dump Cheney" conspiracy theorists predict that it all begins with an announcement that Cheney's heart problems have suddenly gotten much worse.)

And...

"It turns out that Malakoff has a history, going back to 1997, of abusing prescription narcotics. At the same time that he was attesting to Cheney's physical fitness, he was privately struggling with problems that call into question his own fitness to practice medicine and to treat one of G.W.U. Medical Center's most prominent patients. The Vice-President's office severed its professional ties with him after learning about the problems."

1. Let them talk it up and then let it be Cheney!

Cheney should definitely stay on the ticket, but hearing Repugs question its wisdom is delightful to see. A definite balance to their attack on Edwards as Kerry's "second choice" to McCain.

I hope next time Cheney uses the F-Bomb it is while the Senate is in session so it will be on the record and he can be censured or fined.

He is in charge. Without him, they would have no direction. Who is really going to take over the puppeteering? Rumsfield?

All of Cheney's talk about having more info. about al Q. and Saddam "relationship" was crap. He has nothing. No WMDs. No al Q. connection with Saddam. This makes the invasion of Iraq illegal. Will the UN or any other world body do anything about that?

3. Cheney better not take the fall for Bush

Bush is the problem, not Cheney.

Regardless of whether that above statement is true or not, we have to make people believe that Bush is the source of the problems in this country. If people think that Cheney has been so bad that getting rid of him will make Bush perform better, than we have an even tougher task ahead of us.

6. It all depends on the legal implications of a Cheney departure

As a private citizen, would he be more or less vulnerable to being investigated? Wouldn't he lose his executive privilege?

What he did in public life is still subject to prosecution. The only thing he'd avoid is a House impeachment and Senate trial.

Executive privilege, if ultimately accepted by the courts, would still apply to those actions he took while he was VP.

I predicted months ago that Bu$h/Cheney will not make it to November and that McCain will be the Republican nominee. I think the writing is on the wall and the bag-men in the shadows are hedging their bets. Wouldn't it be a fitting end to Cheney's treasonous career to die from a "heart attack" inflicted on him by his own people?
The ANSWER group has an interesting take on our predicament: Major demonstrations at the Inaugural, no matter who becomes president. Given the fact that Kerry's positions are hardly any more enlightened than Bu$hco, there can be no let up in pressure from us, the disenfranchised and screwed citizens. Just look at the reprehensible vote for the Bu$h judicial nominee Leon Holmes this week. He was approved by Democrats!!!

10. Hope it's too late

for the GOP to dump both *ush and Mr. Go F*** Yourself before or during their convention thus giving them the chance to actually win the election. Of course if they know the election is in the bag through vote fraud as in last election then they have no worries or reason to change.
