| Jake reads the newspaper and pays his taxes |
|
Jake is flying more at his new Grrenwood MS base and it's almost tax time so he has included his figures at the end of this letter so that his Dad can file for him, I guess. Apparently, Jake worked for the highway department before singing up for the Army. This letter was postmarked 2 March 1943. Dear Dad,
You must be terribly busy. I haven't heard from you in a long time. Maybe you are thinking the same about me. Do you feel any older. It won't be long until you will have another birthday. Do you have anything in mind that I could make you a present of. I'm gonna get you something so if there is any special thing you need, let me know.
We have been flying all day long since Friday. The weather looks too bad to be flying today though. It rained a little last night and the ceiling is very low this morning. Our old enemy the ground fog is there too. Every morning it is the same.
The new class came in. I believe the Douglas class went to Shaw Field this time (Sumter, SC). We just missed out on it all. Maybe it's better for me in the long run. Everything happens for the best.
The paper comes now very regular. It's just one day late. Things are looking better in Africa now. I was kinda worried for a little while.
I haven't received my check yet but I'm expecting it any day now.
Give my love to all,
Your devoted son,
Jake Jr.
