R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, has written an opinion piece for CNN that concludes with the statement that evangelicals are "dangerous only to those who want more secular voices to have a virtual monopoly in public life."
Mohler is playing the 1984 game here. He's trying to get us to see everything in the topsy-turvy light of Orwellian "logic." Well, I simply couldn't let this pass without challenge. Since Mr. Mohler threw down the gauntlet, it's time for an old-fashioned duel here on The Provocation. I'll respond to his statements one at a time. Since he took the first shot, that seems more than fair.
Whenever you're uncertain whom to believe, just look at motive. Evangelicals want to convert the rest of the world to their way of thinking. The rest of us just want to live our lives ethically, responsibly and free to believe as we choose.
Whom do you trust?
