Why I'm rooting against Netflix

Netflix is following the typical big-business lifecycle of greed and corruption. They’re doing what all big businesses do. But this time
their ambitions bumped right up against an obstacle that other businesses have increasingly been able to ignore – their customers.

Netflix started out as a good idea. They offered a service that everyone wanted, and did it at a fair price. They developed a loyal following of enthusiastic customers by providing a good service. They were making money. Their customers were happy. They grew. All was well. A tale of success worthy of the great American storybook. This is the way American capitalism should work.

But, as often happens, mere success wasn’t good enough for them. They got greedy. They decided to go public and sold their fist stock on May 23, 2002...

2. It's still a great deal.

Not everyone has got the money for satellite/cable bills. A $100.00 Roku and $10.00/month gives one a lot of entertainment and viewing options for the money spent.

I never knew what a roku was until I learned about it here. I'm thinking if getting internet at home but the cheapest i can find is $35 - 60 per month which is t exactly cheap.

11. I'm pretty unique with regards to my internet situation.

My property is the high point in the region and a few years back a wireless company came up to talk to me about siting a tower on my land. I agreed with the stipulation that I'd get free internet. I don't even get a "0" charge bill and I pretty much have no reception or streaming issues.

We bought a Roku box a few years ago. Around $90.00, I think we spent. Assuming you have a TV that handles A/V cable or HDMI inputs, you plug it in, enter your password for your router and you are good to go. I've got Netflix which has great content and we also have Amazon Prime on the box. There are another 30 channels or so of content (Vimeo, TED, MLB, MMA, Hulu), some are n/c others for $4-5 bucks a month. There are also games and I suspect that eventually they'll have a browser for general surfing so you can watch Youtube and such.

My internet connection runs about 2-3MB/sec. That will handle streaming content without a lot of buffering (it does happen occasionally, but I think of it as a infrequent commercial interruption). I do have Dish Network and HBO....Roku just added HBO On-demand channel. We've watched the 1st season of Empire Boardwalk this weekend...it's a great series.

If it came down to Dish or Roku...I think I'd lose the Dish network because there is more than enough content on Roku.

3. The cable/sat industry want to kill Netflix in the worst way. Frankly, Netflix could increase its

fees ten-fold and would still be a lot cheaper than cable with movie channels.

If there's anyone who's greedy, it's the cable industry.

I bought one a year ago. It's like Roku, but with a lot more options. It also allows you to stream from your computer to your tv.
