| What does Gillespie have against trial lawyers? |
|
He praised Kerry or whoever for getting 33% of the vote and then snidely added a comment about "Just like a trial lawyer, taking a third..."
Who is this little f***er anyway, apart from being a repuke and true piece of human garbage?

| 1. Repukes only like lawyers when they're on "their" side. |
|
For example, they hated high-profile criminal defense lawyer Roy Black when he defended William Kennedy Smith. But now that he's trying to keep Rush out of prison, he's not so bad.
Nitpick: the comment you cited was directed at Edwards, not Kerry.

It's just a way of cashing in on the lawyer=scum bs that seems prevelant in society.
So they say they don't like lawyers. Until that is, you go and get your ass into trouble like Rush at which point you turn around and hire the best trial lawyer your republican ass can buy.

My wife's a lawyer, and points this out regularly.
Everyone hates lawyers until they need one.

are not always lockstep with the gop. Sometimes they're *gasp* Democrats. If they were largely aligned with the repugs, we'd hear not a word. Just like if fundamentalist Christians were overwhelmingly Democratic, Rove would be burning a stack of bibles tomorrow.

The trial lawyers are a strong Democratic faction. The republicans, being heavily in the pockets of corporations favor tort reform. This would cut substantially into the large jury awards that make the top trial lawyers in the country wealthy. They are one of the top factions funding the democratic party today and thier lobbyists fight corporate lobbyists in washington. The trial lawyers are on our side and are bitter enemies of the conservatives right now.

| 6. They didn't mind running to lawyers |
|
in Florida in 2000.
BTW, Abraham Lincoln was a "trial lawyer" when he ran for president. Contrary to myth, he wasn't just a country bumpkin backwoods lawyer, either. He was one of the top lawyers in the country, representing railroads and other big clients.

While he is from humble origins, Edwards was one of the top trial lawyers in his field.
Lawyers as a whole are not particularly partisan, but lawyers who sue corporations, especially class action suits have alot at stake in tort reform, and thus are supporting democrats. The Trial Lawyers has therefore become a mostly democratic supporting group, and thus is a republican enemy. It is one of the few groups of wealthy people that give to democrats.
