In keeping with Daniel Singer's thesis that the promise of socialism remains the last best hope for humanity and civilization,The Daniel Singer Foundation invites submissions for the 2004 prize, to be awarded for an original work of not more than 5,000 words exploring the fundamental question:

What Is the Soul of Socialism?

Essays may be in any language. The submissions will be judged by an international panel of distinguished experts appointed by the Foundation. The winner will be announced in December 2004, and the winner will be invited to deliver a public lecture based on the essay.
